Nancy and Greg held their wedding and reception at the Chicago Athletic Association, one of my favorite downtown wedding venues. I was excited to photograph in this unique hotel with this couple, their family and their friends to document the wedding celebration. Nancy and Greg had quite a celebration planned, too, but before we could get to any of that, the bride and groom had to get ready.

Nancy made her preparations in the hotel’s bridal suite, with some help from her friends and family. Once every detail was in place and looking perfect, Nancy took a deep breath and then headed out the door to meet up with her groom.
Meanwhile, Greg was in his room, getting some tie-tying tips from his dad.
His grandma popped in to the room to give some love to her grandson…
…and then headed out to the hotel’s balcony for the First Look photo. And what a view for a first look! Greg and Nancy’s faces lit up as they saw each other, and after taking few moments to admire each other, we headed out into downtown Chicago for some portraits.
First up was the nearby LaSalle Street Bridge, which boasts a view just as wonderful as the one from the Athletic Association’s balcony. Nancy and Greg were game for anything as I had them climb around on the bridge’s beams and rafters… we were having a great time together!
The couple shared a kiss in the middle of the street…
…and were sharing another a few moments later in the garden at the Art Institute.
One last hug, and then it was time to go… the ceremony was starting soon!
Greg and Nancy were married in Millennium Park, surrounded by their closest family and friends. In all my years as a Chicago wedding photographer, I’d never photographed a wedding in this spot. And I have to say, nestled away in this picturesque corner in the park, right in the middle of downtown, it may be one of my favorite locations in the entire city for a wedding.
With their vows, rings and a kiss exchanged, Nancy and Greg were officially official! Congratulations!
The newlyweds led the way out of the park and back to the Athletic Association Hotel for the reception.
The party began with a delicious meal, and while the plates were being cleared, Nancy’s father gave a toast in honor of the couple.
Nancy’s father got a great belly laugh out of Greg…
…and Nancy’s mother laughed along as well.
Next up was one of Nancy’s friends, who gave a loving tribute.
And of course there was cake! Mouths were watering as Nancy and Greg cut into this confectionary masterpiece.
Finally, while guests dug into their cake, Nancy and Greg shared their first dance together as a married couple.
The party lasted throughout the afternoon while the guests enjoyed drinks, food and each other’s company. It was the perfect way to kick off a marriage… thank you for sharing it with me, Nancy and Greg!
